Anthonie W .
Hospital: Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU, Richmond, VA
When Anthonie was 6 months old, he was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, a disease passed down through families that causes thick, sticky mucus to build up in the lungs, digestive tract and other areas of the body. Concerns with the lower end of his colon and complications with pneumonia brought the family to Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU, his medical home, where he continues to be followed through the hospital’s Cystic Fibrosis Center. Anthonie’s current medical status is good due to the care and treatment he has received; he has not been hospitalized since 2006. His health allows him to enjoy baseball, basketball, singing and playing “army” with his friends. Anthonie is an advocate for all children with cystic fibrosis. He recently spent time with Denny Hamlin, FedEx #11 NASCAR Driver, to support continued research and clinical trials for potential cystic fibrosis therapies at Children’s Hospital of Richmond.
