Sydney M .
Hospital: Children’s Medical Center Dallas, Dallas, TX
Sydney has always been an amazing, compassionate girl who has been able to persevere through anything that life puts in front of her. This was especially evident when Sydney was diagnosed with stage IV rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive soft tissue cancer, when she was 3 years old. She underwent a strict 54-week treatment plan that included chemotherapy every two weeks, radiation and surgery that left her with little to no quadriceps muscle on her left leg. Sydney was blessed to have an incredible team of oncologists, surgeons, nurses and physical therapists through the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children’s Medical Center of Dallas that ultimately saved her life. She will be moved to the survivor program at the end of June following a clear set of scans. Now 6½ years old, Sydney continues to astonish her family and teachers each day and continues her pursuit to become a ballet-loving, rock-climbing surgeon.
